Invader Zim has received the green light to return to television. Nickelodeon has huge plans for a new movie starring the characters from Jhonen Vasquez's cult favorite animated series. Invader Zim had it's debute back in 2001 on Nickelodeon.

The show starred an alien, Zim, who landed on Earth with plans to conquer it and win points with his own alien race. As the show goes on we find out that Zim actually wasn't very good at the whole conquest thing, but he and his companion, the robot GIR, proved a charming pair as they attempted to assimilate into the human culture to learn more about their would-be subjects. The show only ran for 2 seasons but has continued it's popularity with a dedicated fan base, selling merchandise from Hot Topic and more.

The new Zim movie will bring back several familiar members of the show's original voice cast including Richard Horvitz as Zim, Rikki Simons as GIR, Andy Berman as Dib and so many more. The straight to TV movie will have a 90 minute run time and begins with Zim hatching a brand new scheme to conquer the world.

Invader Zim is the third popular animated series that Nickalodeon will revist in the near future. Some include the very popular tv show Hey Arnold!, which will return in later 2017 with the tv film Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie. Another show they announced plans for is Rocko's Modern Life TV movie special.

After it's cancellation due to financial issues during the 2nd season, Zim was met by nearly unanimous critical praise. The series won an Annie Award, an Emmy Award, and a World Animation Celebration Award. It also proved to be strong enough to have its own convention, which was called InvaderCON, it ran for 3 consecutive years and included many members of the cast and crew. In 2015 it was launched as a comic book.

What is your opinion of Nickalodeon bringing back Invader Zim? Are you excited? Have you been a fan since the very beginning?
