Game developer Bungie released their official trailer for “Destiny 2” on the destinygames YouTube channel on March 30, garnering a rather positive rating in the video likes and buzzing commentary within the comments. With the mixed reviews of the first Destiny, the newest installment of the series brings hope to those who were disappointed with the previous game.
The trailer itself is a cinematic creation featuring two characters, Commander Zavala and Cayde-6, rallying each of their groups of guardians to unite and take back the Last City on Earth from the Red Legion, led by Primus Ghaul. Zavala gives an empowering, inspiring speech of uniting and striking back against the Red Legion; while Cayde-6 gives a humorous, egocentric but less-inspiring speech to his groups of the realities and rewards of fighting the battle against their enemy, both to uproaring cheers
The trailer itself provided dramatic and picturesque cinematics that give anticipation as to what the new game might hold. Compared to the first game, which was considered by some as a lackluster combination of Halo and Warframe with little storyline, this give hope for a story-based sequel with more accessibility for those who use PCs (as Bungie and their publisher Activision announced it would be released on PC) and those who do not purchase downloadable content, which was cause for controversy in the first Destiny.
The trailer itself is not a depiction of actual gameplay, which for some may make getting a good idea of the game prior to launch difficult, but it allows for spoiling and surprise to be left to buyers of the game upon release. Overall, while we may not know if Destiny 2 will be an improvement to its predecessor, it provides hope to those who seek improvement in the latest release.
