YESSS “it's about damn time!” We’re excited to see Wasp’s rebirth in her debut as her own heroine in Ant-Man and The Wasp. Her importance to the Ant-Man sequel is empowering and awe inspiring to me as a woman. Her name was not just tacked on the title or followed by a ginormous number “2”, but she was given the attention she deserves and her name added to the title; Ant-Man and The Wasp. In the initial release of Ant-Man in 2015, Hope Van Dyne had a decent amount of screen time but throughout the film she never was acknowledged as great of an asset or as an equal to Ant-Man. By the end of the movie Hope had proven herself to her father and the audience to be equal in skill and greater in intelligence than her male counterpart. For the entirety of the movie her father declined her requests to wear Ant-Man’s suit as he was afraid of losing Hope the same was he had lost Janet in the microverse. Hope Van Dyne is a skillful fighter and genius but not yet a superhero, by gaining her powers through S.H.I.E.L.D., she would no longer be “just Ant-Man's girlfriend”, but a heroine worthy of joining the Avengers on her own terms. Hope’s importance was acknowledged by the end of the film by proving herself worthy after helping Scott stop Cross. Hope’s costume reveal took place at the mid-credits scene and during this scene some narrative portrayed distance between her and her father Hank Pym and undermines the audience expectation that at some point she's going to be involved in some kind of domestic abuse as the former Wasp had been. This scene is when Hank shows her the advanced Wasp suit he had been designing with Janet before her "death”. Hank said he believed the suit was for his wife, but concluded that it was meant for their daughter. Awww.
During a Facebook Q&A, Evangeline Lilly revealed she got pregnant before she could put on the suit, so we are enthusiastically anticipating The Wasps official reveal on screen in trailers of the Ant-Man sequel set to be released July 6th, 2018. Hope’s costume isn't an update of the original suits we’ve seen in the comics, but a totally revamped design featuring blue and gold armour with red accents, a golden helmet, gloves equipped with what looks to be hidden technical advancements and an impressive set of wings. The new suit looks nothing like the full black and red body, or any variation of any suit janet was seen wearing in the comics. Along with our next generation Wasp, Marvel can hopefully avoid bringing up the major issues of domestic abuse that came up in the comics of the relationship between the original Ant-Man (Hyde) and Wasp (Janet). Hopefully Marvel can put to rest the degrading sexist portrayal of Wasp’s character in comics from previous decades and hopefully pave the way for equality for the new MCU and fanbase. Marvel’s debut of Hope as a new generation wasp gives our heroine the spotlight she deserves as a female leading hero and girl genius!!!
EXTRAS:
We are expecting to see Ant-Man and The Wasp alongside the Avengers in the fourth installment of the Avengers movies but unfortunately we won’t be seeing Ant-Man or the Wasp’s appearance in avengers films until after the third movie. With a billion dollar budget for the Avengers: Infinity War film we have high expectations for the two-part sequel. The fourth installment is officially set to be released may 3rd, 2019 which will feature Ant-Man, The Wasp, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the full Avengers squad, but we can catch Ant-Man and The Wasp next year in their Ant-Man sequel which is officially set to debut July 6th, 2018.

Other films that were set to be released as part of MCU’s Phase 3 such as Black panther and Captain Marvel have been pushed back to accommodate Ant-Man and The Wasp’s release. Black Panther’s release has been pushed back to February 16th, 2018, and Captain Marvel’s release has been pushed to March 8th, 2019.
