Are you a fan of the wildly popular horror movie franchise Friday the 13th? Ever want a chance to take a stab at Jason Voorhees himself, or even see the world through his eyes? Now’s your chance with the upcoming release from IllFonic and Gun Media, Friday the 13th: The Game!
Set to be released May 26 this year, the game was funded via Kickstarter and Backerkit in 2015, created by a team of game and movie industry veterans; including but not limited to Kane Hodder (the actor who portrayed Jason in four of the films), Tom Savini (actor and award winning makeup artist on films such as Day of the Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Friday the 13th I and IV), and Harry Manfredini (composer for films such as Swamp Thing, The Hills Have Eyes I and II¸ and House I and II).
The game, as described by the official website, will allow players to an intense survival experience where you and six other counsellors will have to work together to survive and escape Jason’s wrath. The game’s focus is multiplayer, meaning you and your friends can play together as a team, or pit one of you against the rest as Jason!
The game will be full of scares and gore drawn straight from the films, keeping with the authentic details of the films, including the visuals of the 80’s; and just like the films, Jason will not rest until everyone at Camp Crystal Lake has died a horrific death. The game trailer exhibits numerous examples of the potential gruesome deaths you may be subjected to, in addition to the weapons, hiding places, and traps that you can set up to aid in your escape. But don’t expect your escape to be as easy as hotwiring a car and driving out, “nothing is ever certain and no one is ever safe!”
Judging from the trailer alone, the game itself looks to be a good, ol-fashioned slash and stab where you can release all your pent up anger from your every day life onto unsuspecting teenage camp counsellors. The fact that you may now take control of the maniacal killer that is Jason is an even-better addition. However, we cannot make a judgment on a games quality and design from trailers alone. But judging from the funding response of $2.1 million between both fundraiser efforts, it can be assumed that many people are excited for this game release!
