Orange is the New Black Season 5 Trailer Review.

Get on your jumpsuits and buckle in, the next season of the hit Netflix series “Orange is the New Black” is about to drop and it looks hot! The famed television series centers around Piper Chapman, a woman imprisoned for a prior drug trafficking offense where she navigates the drama and dangers of life at Litchfield Penitentiary.

The fifth season is set to be released on June 9, and judging by the trailer, it’s going to be an intense season. Injustices and prisoner cruelty have reached all new heights. Prison riots, threatening guards, the women feeling abused, neglected, and suffering; the prisoners on the women’s block of Litchfield rise up and band together to improve their conditions within the prison.

The trailer screamed liberation, rebellion, and highlights the inmates strives for restored integrity. A scene involving Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren being kept within a “cell” of food trays with a candle in the middle was particularly difficult to witness, as the fear on her face was palpable. Seeing images of the women being abused and distraught was extremely sobering; the fights with guards, destruction, and riots point to an overall highly intense and exciting atmosphere to the season.

Title card in the final minute of the trailer flash “INJUSTICE” changes to “JUSTICE”, “REJECTION” to “REBELLION”, “IMPRISONED” to “EMPOWERED”, finalized with “STAND UP”; all intercut with clips of the women burning a pile, goofing off, and working together to help each other work towards a better life while on the inside. The sense of women’s empowerment and of duty to make things right is definitely well conveyed within the trailer without spoiling any real parts of the season.

Overall, I have high hopes for this coming season of OITNB. My only concern is how many more seasons do we have until Piper is released from prison? We can only watch to find out.
