Guardians of the Galaxy 2: Post Credits Explained

Post-Credit scenes are a recurring feature in Marvel cinematic films. These scenes can be used to set up future movie plots or simply to provide comic relief. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has five of these scenes during and after the credits, and here’s an explanation of what each of them mean.

#1: Kraglin practices controlling Yondu's arrow

Kraglin, the new captain of the late Yondu’s Ravagers faction after his death, practices using the Yaka Arrow that Peter gave to him after Yondu’s funeral. Unlike Yondu’s graceful and accurate control of the arrow, Kraglin clearly has a long way to go to match his skill. He whistles unsteadily and the arrow bobs around similarly. Then the arrow spins out of control and zips off into Drax’s shoulder! Shocked and embarrassed, Kraglin runs off before he can take the blame.

#2: Stakar Ogord reassembles his crew

Stakar Ogord stands before Martinex, Charlie-27, Aleta Ogord, Krugarr, and Mainframe, a Ravager team reunited after the tragedy of losing Yondu. In the original 1960’s comic series, these characters formed the original Guardians of the Galaxy. They might join up with the current Guardians in future films, or maybe it was just a cool reference for the older comics fans.

#3: Ayesha creates Adam

In this scene Ayesha, the Golden High Priestess of the Sovereign, sits disheveled and ashamed of her failure in defeating the Guardians. She shows one of her priestesses a cocoon she has engineered to be the next stage of her species’ evolution. She plans to show it to the council to atone for her loss. The being inside the cocoon is Adam Warlock (aka Him), a character that first appeared in Marvel comics in the 1960’s. He is an artificial superhuman who derives most of his power from the Soul Gem, one of the Infinity Stones, and is an enemy of Thanos. He could possibly have a major role in upcoming Marvel films.

#4: Peter nags teenage Groot

This scene is pure comic relief. Baby Groot has grown somewhat is in now seemingly in the teenage stage of his lifecycle. His room aboard Peter’s ship is a compete mess, covered in vines. Peter enters, scolding Groot about the clutter, but Groot mostly ignores him and continues playing a video game. A sarcastic “I am Groot” is his only reply. Kids these days, am I right?!

#5: Stan Lee bores the Watchers

And finally, we get a reprise of the earlier scene in which astronaut Stan Lee recounts his previous adventures to the Watchers. The Watchers apparently grow tired of Stan’s stories and turn to leave while Stan begs them to come back, as they are his ride home. The Watchers are an ancient alien race who is tasked with observing and recording the universe without interfering in it. They would undoubtedly be interested in this man who has played a part in every major event on and around Earth in the last few years. However even they seem to get tired of him and leave. I guess they aren’t big Marvel fans!
