Was There An Mortal Comabt Easter Egg in Injustice 2?

Less than three days after the release of Injustice 2, the superhero battle sequel to Injustice: Gods Among Us, an Easter egg has been discovered hidden cleverly within the campaign of the game.

The Easter egg pertains to a certain character from the famed combat franchise Mortal Kombat, known as Cyrax. Cyrax is the yellow cybernetic ninja and a member of the Lin Kuei clan of assassins, which includes Sub-Zero, Sektor, and Smoke. He specializes in modern weaponry, such as saws, nets, and bombs and his appearance is inspired by Star Wars’ Boba Fett and Predator.

The Easter Egg appears during a story mode chapter of the campaign of the game, in which Batman’s Catwoman and Teen Titan’s Cyborg are overriding the defense system Brother Eye, within the campaign. To do this, she utilizes the authorization code “LK-4D4”, which just so happens to be the same codename that is held by none other than Cyrax in MK.

There are several other Easter Eggs and references within the new game as well; Raiden, another well known character from the MK franchise, is referenced in battle dialogue between Black Adam and Joker, in addition to his silhouette being seen in a preview of DLC characters for the game; the infamous “Finish Him” line from MK is also shown when playing a battle on the Gotham city stage, tossing your opponent into the theatre’s show time board, the letters will fall off and spell out “Finish Him” ever so subtly.

NetherRealm Studios, the developers of the Injustice games, are also responsible for the creation of 2011’s Mortal Kombat and 2015’s Mortal Kombat X. So it seems only fitting that the company chose to reference a legendary classic and their other highly-successful series within their other games. Perhaps as more people play through Injustice 2, more hints, references, and Easter eggs will be found within the gameplay and battles.

Hopefully, for those who have enjoy Mortal Kombat for as long as it has existed, it will provide a sense of nostalgia and extra excitement while playing.
