Umbrella Corp Logo Accidentally Used For SkinCare Facility

When running a business, an eye-catching logo is key to drawing in your customer base. However, one skin care clinic found themselves facing quite the controversy after a logo they commissioned for their clinic turned out to be the same as an infamous company in the Resident Evil franchise!
Medcare Skin Centre, located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, recently discovered that the logo that they had paid an outsourced company to design for them closely resembled the logo of “Umbrella Corporation”; for those unaware, “Umbrella Corporation” is a fictitious company within the Resident Evil video game and movie franchise, mainly regarded as the primary source for the antagonists in both settings and as the source of the creation of the T-virus, which transformed those infected by it into hideous zombie-like monsters. The logo, a white and red sectioned umbrella opened outward, was commissioned by the clinic from another source, thus implying the workmanship behind this was either an intentional way of “joking” or very lazy, at best. When this correlation was brought to the clinic’s attention by clients and the media, they responded by removing some of their promo images and released the following statement on their Facebook page in both English and Vietnamese:
“Ho Chi Minh City - Jun, 5th, 2017
Dear Clients and Partners of Medcare Skin Centre and others of concern;
In the last few days, we have received feedback from the media and community that our logo resembles that of a fictional corporation (Umbrella Corporation) in the movie and game Resident Evil. We are very surprised to receive such feedback from the community.
We are very sorry the situation has occurred and is working internally to find the best solution quickly. Our team is highly specialized in taking care of skin conditions for our clients and logo design is completely out of our specialty and was consulted and completed for us by a hired third-party. We understand the urgency of the situation; and is working to quickly to provide appropriate answer to our clients, partners, community and to the movie and game producers and copyright holders of the artwork. We hope for your understanding that the situation is not an intentional infringement of copyright by Medcare Skin Centre.
We will continually update our progress on the website and social media presence. In the meantime, we will be monitoring continual feedback from the community in this email should you have any sharing with Medcare Skin Centre: Dieutridalieu@medcare.com.vn
Once again, we are very sorry and look forward to your understanding and support.
Sincerely, Medcare Skin Centre”
The company will hopefully have a new logo (a more appropriate one) created soon, and hopefully this will bring nothing but more clients to their facility. While some may think this is a cool, fun way to attract clientele, others who are familiar with the sinister origins of the logo may not find it so amusing.
