Last week, I reviewed my personal favourite hub for geek shopping, thinkgeek.com. This week, I’ve been exploring various sites for other options and have been pointed to a site I was not familiar with – superherostuff.com! Though I have not purchased anything from this website, I wanted to review this website so I will change up the criteria: website layout/design, selection/sizing/stock, pricing/shipping, and outside reviews. This review is by no means affiliated with superherostuff.com, this is my personal opinion and judgment of what I see based on the website and others reviews of products.
Website Layout & Design: On first glance, the website is very eye catching and pleasing, with a blue, black, and white theme that is easy to read and see. The tabs located along the top feature drop down tabs with numerous categories, making it very easy to find specific items.
Selection: This website has THOUSANDS of items for numerous heroes, including Star Wars, Star Trek, and some video games. For example, I was looking for Star Wars accessories, one quick click and I found over 100 items in accessories alone. Women’s Hulk shirts? At least fifty or more. TMNT pjs? About 20 items! There’s tons of selection to choose from.
Sizing: An issues some might face is sizing, as some garments do not offer sizing past the standard S/M/L/XL sizes. However, a quick browse will show you a number of options with plus sizing available. Unfortunately, when using the 2XL/3XL/4XL Shirts and Hoodies option in the side bar of the clothing menu, it is listed as men’s only, but who cares about formalities?
Stock: The stock on most options was available, though some sizes were out of stock on some items. No expected restock date was listed on the out of stock options, but generally most everything was in stock on my viewing.
Pricing: Pricing, in my opinion, was fairly standard. Shirts ranging from $5-$35 (a few select ones were above this), hoodies and sweatshirts anywhere from $10-$70 (a few select options were much higher), hats ranged from $10 – 50 depending on styles, accessories (such as belts, bags, wallets, etc.) ranged anywhere from as low as $1 to as high as $150 depending on the item. Home and Office items like glassware and kitchenware were on par with regular prices, sitting in the $10-50 range depending on the item. The website also features a HeroBox, a mystery box that starts at $49 and contain up to 10 items worth up to $100 value. It advertises there’s no subscription required and makes a great gift.
Shipping: I placed a Harley Quinn wallet in my cart and got a shipping quote. To ship to my address in Canada would start at $5.95 standard shipping (comparable to some websites, where you can pay up to $35 for standard!), however if I wanted this wallet within two weeks, I could pay $31.75 for Priority Mail or $40.95 for Global Express. Overall, fairly normal and reasonable standard shipping.
Reviews: Since I do not have first hand experience shopping here, I decided to see what others had to say about their merch. The website has a “LoveMail” section, full of positive reviews about great quality, customer service, and products. However, I always check multiple sources prior to purchasing, so I Googled around. The website is not listed on the Better Business Bureau, but has no complaints there that I could see. On their Facebook page, they have a 4.3 star rating, with hundreds of positive reviews. Looking over the negative ones, many of them seem to be regarding shipping issues like lost packages, delays, and out of stock options. Some older review also had chare issues and issues with quality, but seeing as only about a thousand people had 1 or 2 star reviews when compared to the over 12,000 3+ star reviews, that would lead me to believe they either have worked through any past issues or have had flukes, like other companies.
Overall, this website seems like a great, relatively affordable place to shop to your little nerd heart’s content. While I cannot speak directly for the content’s quality, I do think it is worth a shot to see how the products perform compared to other merchandise you may have purchased. I hope my review was helpful to those curious about other websites!
