Since Batman’s first live-action appearance in the 1943 film “The Batman” and being portrayed by Lewis Wilson, numerous other actors have stepped in to fill the Batsuit in his numerous incarnations. From George Clooney to Adam West to Michael Keaton and Christian Bale, many a Hollywood legend has filled the shoes of the most well-known superhero. In his most recent personification, Ben Affleck has been portraying the Dark Knight. Having acted as the Bat in “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Suicide Squad”, and currently signed on to portray him in “Justice League” (JL), it seems Affleck’s portrayal is going to continue for some time. Or is it?

“The Hollywood Reporter” recently stated that Warner Bros. is planning to have the Hollywood A-list exit the role in the next few years, citing a numerous of reasons for doing so. The main reason being Affleck’s age; currently he is 45, making him far older than most of his JL counterparts. Additionally, Affleck would be pushing 50 by the time a planned Batman trilogy would be released sometime in 2019.

While it is unsure of how exactly the role transition will occur, there are a number of possibilities to take, such as passing the role to a successor or simply recasting. Affleck may also remain on for the rest of the JL films, then recast or succeed. Despite this, it is entirely possible Affleck could retain his role as the Caped Crusader for some time to come. Though this is speculation at this point.

Hopefully whatever outcome becomes of the role, Affleck is satisfied with his portrayal and the future actors to play Batman also do him justice. For now, we can only wait and see what the forthcoming films hold.
